About Dana

Biography

Dana Henry, a past president of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, is the President’s Selection for the Class of 2024 of the Indiana County Business Hall of Fame.

Dana is a lifelong Indiana County resident, a forward-thinking and creative-minded leader in the local economic development program, a military veteran, and a tireless community servant.

A 1964 graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School, Dana enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Vietnam War era as a sailor and petty officer. He returned to Indiana and majored in business administration, economics and communication at IUP. His continuing education and professional development include completion of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organizational Management.

Dana’s career began as a surveyor for Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company. He worked 20 years for Fisher Scientific Incorporated and its Contempra Furniture Division as a supervisor and customer service manager. For six years, Dana was the marketing, wholesale sales, importing and exporting director and warehouse manager for The Roadster Factory sportscar parts business in Armagh. He simultaneously coordinated a nationally known summer car show and managed community relations for the company’s partner restaurant, the Coventry Inn, in Indiana.

Dana was named president of the chamber in late 1995 and served 18 years as its leader. He led the chamber’s annual membership campaigns, coordinated the business and industry attraction and retention efforts for the entire county, developed the “Chamber Member-of-the-Month” promotional program. He organized the Leaders Circle program that unified the prestigious award programs honoring Indiana County’s brightest talent and selfless volunteers in a single celebration of their dedication and giving.

In giving back to his communities, Dana has served on the Indiana Borough Zoning Hearing Board, Indiana County Planning Commission, Indiana County Solid Waste Authority, Homer- Center School Board and Homer City Borough Council. He has dedicated his volunteer time, effort and expertise in support of the American Cancer Society, Downtown Indiana Incorporated, the New Growth Arts Festival, the Kiwanis, Rotary International, the VFW, Alice Paul House board of directors, Indiana Arts Council, the United Way and many others.

In recognition of Dana’s community spirit, he was saluted by the Leaders Circle as the Male Civic Leader of the Year in 1999.

Since his retirement from the Chamber, Dana has served as chief of economic development in the Indiana County Office of Planning and Development. He remains a key figure in the Indiana County Center for Economic Operations as he continues to promote, market and advance economic development opportunities in Indiana County.

Dana has made his home with his wife, Kitty, for the last 30 years in Homer City.
