About Jack

Biography

Jack Delaney, the owner of Indiana's Chevrolet dealership for more than 50 years and operator of the Honda, Subaru and Hyundai franchises in Indiana County, is a member of the Class of 2022 of the Indiana County Business Hall of Fame.

Jack, a native of Indiana, enlisted in the U.S. Navy right out of high school, then enrolled as a part time student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. While attending IUP, Jack took a job selling Oldsmobiles for Cecil Spadafora until a manager at Stafford Chevrolet lured him away. Five years later, Baierl Chevrolet recruited Jack to its Wexford, PA sales staff and Delaney won honors there as the top Chevy truck salesman for western Pennsylvania.

His dream of owning a car dealership came to fruition soon afterward when the Stafford Chevrolet store came up for sale and Jack Delaney, at age 30, put his name on the business on July 19, 1971.

Nothing but growth followed. He added Honda to the Indiana lineup in 1980, he took over the Indiana market's Buick franchise in 1987 after the retirement of dealer Bob Fleming. He purchased the Chevrolet dealership in Greensburg in 1983, later adding Nissan in 1987 and Volvo in 1994. Hyundai and Subaru were added to the Indiana lineup in 2005 and 2006 followed by construction of new Honda, Subaru and Hyundai facilities in 2011 and 2014 along Oakland Avenue in White Township. He purchased a Nissan dealership in State College in 2019 and most recently added Arone Auto Body in Homer City to the family of businesses.

In tandem with the expansion of Delaney Automotive Group came growing opportunities to support the Indiana community. The Delaney Family Scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering IUP. Delaney is the annual sponsor of the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival in Indiana, and the business has sponsored a Little League team in Indiana for fifty years.

Delaney Subaru and the Subaru Foundation have poured approximately $100,000 into Hopeful Hearts, the children's grief support program run by VNA. Through the Subaru dealership, Delaney has led local fundraising efforts on behalf of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Light the Night Campaign. Delaney and Subaru also have donated blankets to ICCAP and the Pathway homeless shelter. The dealership has coordinated a community-wide collection of supplies for Indiana County Humane Society and donated award-winning science books to area elementary schools through the Subaru Loves Learning initiative.

The Delaney Chevrolet dealership and Chevy Youth Sports have supported Indiana Area Soccer Boosters efforts to provide opportunities for kids to play.

The Eberly College of Business at IUP honored the dealership with a Distinguished Family Business award in 2016.

In 2021, Indiana County Chamber of Commerce selected Delaney Auto Group as the employer of the year.

The 50th anniversary of Jack's Chevrolet business came with an element of flair in 2021, when his family and dealership managers arranged the purchase of a 1971 Chevelle SS as a gift to celebrate and commemorate the occasion. High level executives from Chevrolet's headquarters in Detroit came to Indiana to help celebrate the achievement.

The Indiana County Chamber of Commerce welcomes Jack Delaney, a member of the Class of 2022 of the Indiana County Business Hall of Fame.
