Biography

Johnston A Glass was born and spent most of his young life in Western Pennsylvania. He attended Kiski Area High School and graduated college from Penn State University. Upon graduation, John began his banking career at the National Bank of the Commonwealth. John went through the bank’s Management Training Program, and became a manager of several different branches. Throughout his career with the bank, he was named Business Development Officer and Head of Lending before being named to the position of president and CEO of that institute. Currently, John is on the First Commonwealth Financial Corporation Board of Directors. He serves on the Risk Committee and is Chairperson of the Credit Committee.

John Glass knew that part of building a strong business community included the mentorship of young people to encourage them to become future business leaders. As president of the Indiana Jaycees he was able to do just that. Throughout his career he set an example for young business professionals.

John worked to develop and implement new paths to expand economic growth in the county. He was named President of the Indiana County Development Corporation from 1991-1992 and was President of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce from 1991-1992.

John continued his work with the community by serving on the Indiana Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, the IUP Business Incubator Board of Directors, and the Indiana County Prayer Breakfast Committee. He was also named Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Indiana County Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, The Open Door. John has served on the Pennsylvania Bankers Association Board of Directors and the First National Bank of Santa Fe Board of Directors. He has also led fund-raising campaigns for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Indiana Regional Medical Center.

John also enjoyed participating in a variety of community services related activities such as ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, serving at the United Way Pancake and Sausage breakfast, and working with the Indiana High School Band Boosters spaghetti dinners.

John is married to Aileen, his wife of 48 years. They have two daughters- Jennifer and Sara. Jennifer is married to Mike Turek and they have two children-Jack and Ellie. Sara is married to Sam Naduriak and they have one daughter-Emma. He currently splits his time residing in Deep Creek, Maryland and Chandler, Arizona.
